Q1. Why is my drive not being detected?
This device does not support hot swapping. Make sure to unplug the docking base, plug in the M.2, and finally plug in to the computer. Please note that depending on the computer and operating system, the device may take several seconds to detect. See also “Does this device support hot swap?”, “Does this device support SATA M.2 devices?”, or “Device plugged in but doesn’t show in Windows 10” for more troubleshooting information.
Q2. Device plugged in, but doesn’t show in Windows 10
If the SSD has never been used before, then it will not appear under “This PC.” In order to see your device, open Disk Management. It will likely prompt you to initialize the drive. If so, do this. If you need to format yourself, then you will most likely want a GPT partition with the NTSF file system. Look for these options and format accordingly. Afterwards, the drive will be recognized.
Q3. Does this device support hot swap?
No, the docking base will need to be disconnected from the PC before swapping the M.2 drive or the OS will not detect the drive.
Q4. Does this device support SATA M.2 devices?
No, the docking base only supports NVMe. This device will not work with AHCI or SATA based devices. Please double check your drive’s information. If you are still unsure, send us your drive’s make, model, and serial number and we will happily assist you.
Q5. My device feels hot, is this normal?
NVMe drives are incredibly fast. However, with the speed comes great heat. Digifast M.2 devices are equipped with safeguards that prevent your device from becoming damaged. Use other devices at your own risk. Heating up during operation is normal, but please take caution when removing the device after use, as it can be quite hot.
Q6. With which operating systems will this work?
The device works with Windows 7 or later and MacOS 10.10.5 (Yosemite) or later. Most Linux distributions will work as well.
Q7. What chip does the docking base use?
It uses the JMicron JMS583 controller.
Q8. How long is the USB cable included?
The cable is a type-C to type-A cable and measures 20.5 cm
Q9. Will this device work with my drive?
The docking base works with all M.2 NVMe drives. It will not support SATA or AHCI. If you aren’t quite sure what this means, feel free to send us an email with the drive’s make and model, and we can check for you.
Q10. Why is my docking base taking so long to register?
Your device may take up to 20 seconds to be recognized by Windows. There are many factors such as background tasks, available system memory, virus scanners, etc that may be slowing detection time. Check USB detection time for your operating system for more information.
Q11. What is the difference between automatic and manual modes?
Automatic mode will immediately power up your SSD upon insertion. Manual mode will wait until you turn the power on yourself.
